The Tanzania Ventures Lab Acceleration Programme is Tanzania's premier venture development programme, designed to transform high-potential ventures across six strategic sectors into scalable, investment-ready enterprises. Through intensive support, mentorship, and market access, we empower entrepreneurs, innovators, and MSMEs to build world-class ventures that drive industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.

How Tanzania Ventures Lab Works

Apply

Respond to our national call for ventures. Applications are accepted on a rolling annual basis, with approximately 250 ventures selected each year across all six sectors.

Screening & Selection

Ventures undergo a rigorous, sector-specific screening process evaluating innovation, scalability, team capacity, and market potential.

Sector Acceleration

Selected ventures enter their assigned sector accelerator for an intensive programme of mentorship, technical support, business development, and market validation.

Investor Readiness

Ventures receive dedicated support in financial modelling, pitch preparation, deal structuring, and capital matchmaking.

Scale & Market Access

Graduates gain access to follow-on funding, government procurement opportunities, anchor buyer partnerships, and regional market entry support.

Sector-Specific Technical Mentorship

Deep-dive guidance from industry experts across all six Tanzania Ventures Lab sectors. Participants receive tailored technical support addressing sector-specific challenges, regulatory requirements, and market dynamics.

Investor Readiness & Capital Access

Comprehensive investor readiness training including financial modelling, pitch deck development, due diligence preparation, and valuation strategies. Participants gain direct access to Tanzania Ventures Lab's network of venture capital funds, impact investors, development finance institutions, and corporate venture arms.

Business Development & Market Access

Strategic support in securing anchor clients, government contracts, corporate partnerships, and distribution agreements. Participants receive introductions to key procurement decision-makers and participation in B2B matchmaking events.

Infrastructure & Workspace Access

Subsidised access to co-working spaces, fabrication labs, prototyping facilities, and testing equipment at Buni Innovation Hub and Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi).

Research-to-Market Commercialisation Support

For research-based ventures, specialised support in intellectual property protection, technology transfer, licensing strategy, and partnership with universities and research institutions across Tanzania.

Regulatory & Compliance Navigation

Expert guidance on business registration, licensing requirements, tax compliance, labour laws, environmental regulations, and sector-specific regulatory frameworks.

Peer Learning & Alumni Network

Join a growing community of 1,000 Tanzania Ventures Lab-supported ventures across Tanzania. Participants benefit from peer-to-peer learning sessions, cross-sector collaboration opportunities, alumni mentorship, and lifetime access to the Tanzania Ventures Lab venture network.

National & Regional Visibility

Media coverage, thought leadership opportunities, and public relations support to position your venture as a leader in your sector. Participants are featured in Tanzania Ventures Lab communications and participate in national innovation events.

Application Criteria

Tanzania Ventures Lab seeks high-potential ventures committed to building scalable, sustainable enterprises that create measurable economic and social impact.

Tanzanian Registration & Ownership

Ventures must be registered in Tanzania with at least 51% Tanzanian ownership. For research-based ventures, applicants may be affiliated with Tanzanian universities or research institutions.

Sector Alignment

Ventures must operate in one of Tanzania Ventures Lab's six strategic sectors: Energy & Clean Tech, Mining & Extractives, Tourism & Hospitality, Agriculture & Livestock, Manufacturing & Industry, or AI & Emerging Technologies.

Stage of Development

Applicants should be at minimum viable product (MVP) stage or beyond, with demonstrated early traction, customer validation, or pilot implementation.

Scalability & Impact Potential

Ventures must demonstrate clear potential for rapid growth, job creation, and measurable economic or social impact with a credible path to at least TZS 500 million in annual revenue within 3–5 years.

Committed Founding Team

At least one founder must be available full-time to participate in the acceleration programme. Teams with complementary skills are preferred.

Innovation & Competitive Advantage

Ventures must offer differentiated products, services, or business models with clear competitive advantages, including proprietary technology or unique market positioning.

Priority Considerations

While all eligible ventures are encouraged to apply, Tanzania Ventures Lab prioritises:

1Youth-led ventures (founders under 35 years).
2Women-led ventures (majority female ownership or leadership).
3Ventures from underserved regions outside Dar es Salaam.
4Research commercialisation ventures from Tanzanian universities.
5Climate-smart and environmentally sustainable solutions.
6Ventures addressing critical national development challenges.
